Leonid Novikov

Leonid Jurjewitsch Novikov (Russian Леонид Юрьевич Новиков; born January 10, 1984 in Belgorod ) is a Russian orienteer. In 2013 he became world champion middle distance and with the Russian squadron.

The middle distance specialist Novikov stood for years in the shadow of his older brother Valentin Novikov. So he was not able to run until 2012 at a major international championship in the top ten. 2013 at the World Championships in Finland Vuokatti he won 31 -year-old middle distance ahead of Frenchman Thierry Gueorgiou and Gustav Bergman from Sweden. For the first time in the Russian squadron constantly a few days later he won his second gold medal.

International starts Novikov for the Finnish club Delta, with which he in a season with his brother won the Jukola 2008.
