Leonid Sobinov

Leonid Vitalyevich Sobinov (Russian Леонид Витальевич Собинов, scientific transliteration Leonid Vitalevič Sobinov; * 26 Maijul / June 7 1872greg in Yaroslavl, .. † October 14, 1934 in Riga) was a famous Russian tenor and opera singer.

Life

Sobinov was the son of Yaroslavl merchant. At the age of 18 he moved to Moscow, where he studied first law at the Moscow State University. Parallel to this study, the Sobinov 1894 graduated, he used his musical talent and took part in a student choir, since the end of 1892, he studied singing at the Moscow " school the Philharmonic ". During this time Sobinov entered already successfully feature an Italian opera troupe. In 1897 he completed the training and was allowed a short time later perform on the stage of Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. He sang primarily known lyric tenor roles, including, inter alia, the role of Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, the Prince in Rusalka Dargomyschskis or False Dmitry in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov. At the Bolshoi stage Sobinov also joined together with the famous bass Chaliapin on in Gounod's Faust.

1901 Sobinov debuted in the former Russian capital Saint Petersburg. In the course of the 1900 's, he gave numerous guest appearances in several European countries and was engaged from 1904 to 1906 in Milan's Teatro alla Scala. In 1909 he returned to Moscow and sang again on the Bolshoi stage. 1917-1918, and from 1921 he was also artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre. 1923 Sobinov was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. On the opera stage, he appeared until 1933; recently, he served as deputy head of the art department of the Stanislavski Opera Studio.

Sobinows tomb is in the cemetery of the New Maidens Convent in Moscow. After Sobinov numerous streets in Russia and among other things, the Conservatory in the city of Saratov were named. End of 2007, a monument with a life-size sculpture of the singer was erected in his home city of Yaroslavl.

The asteroid 4449 1987 received its name.
