Leonid Sobolev

Leonid Nikolayevich Sobolev (Bulgarian: Леонид Николаевич Соболев ) (* June 9, 1844 at Toropetz, Russia, † October 13th 1913 in Russia ) was a Russian- Bulgarian General, politician and Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

Life

Military career

A native of Russia Sobolev completed a military career during which he graduated first in 1868, the Nikolajewsker General Staff Academy in Saint Petersburg. During the Russo- Ottoman War 1877 to 1878 he was employed as a staff officer in the Russian army in Bulgaria. During the war, he participated in the battles of Pleven and around the Shipka Pass. Subsequently, he was adjutant of Prince Vladimir Alexandrovich Cherkassky.

Prime Minister from 1882 to 1883

On 5 July 1882 he was appointed by Prince Alexander I as prime minister. At the same time he took over at the express request of the prince and the office of Minister of the Interior. This office he gave up on April 16, 1883. From 29 November 1882 to 26 January 1883, he was also also Minister of Public Instruction. Finally, he took over from 15 to 18 March 1883, the Minister of Finance. On August 15, 1883 to September 19, 1883, he was then again Minister of the Interior.

According to political disagreements with the prince and the Conservative Party, he resigned on September 19, 1883 back as prime minister, and gave this office to Dragan Tsankov Kiriakow.

Following his retirement, he returned to Russia, where he is a book about the Bulgarian contemporary history ( " Към най - новата история на България " ) written in 1886.

Also in 1886 he published the book " The first Prince of Bulgaria ".
