Leonrod is a part of the market Dietenhofen in the district of Ansbach, Middle Franconia.

Geography

Leonrod is located in the natural park of Franconia about one kilometer north-west of Dietenhofen in Biberttal between two spurs of the Franks height. In place of Kiengraben opens as a right tributary of the Beavers and the Hutweihergraben as inflow in the Hutweiher. Furthermore, here arises the meadow canal, which flows in Dietenhofen as a right tributary to the Beavers.

History

Leonrod was first mentioned in 1218 as Lewenrode documented and was the village at the Ganerbenburg. Leonrod evolved from three originally separate places that have grown together to Leonrod. Those were the north of Beavers Located Heylingsdorff, Heiligendorf or Seelig Dorff and the south of the Beavers Located Moosdorf. Heylingsdorff was first documented in 1700, but appeared in the 18th century repeatedly documents with the place name Seelig village. In a deed of 1739 was reported by a chapel in the place.
