Leoš Heger

Leoš Heger ( born February 11, 1948 in Hradec Králové ) is a Czech physician, university teacher and politician of the party TOP 09, and former member of the ODS. Since July 2010 he has been Minister of Health in the Cabinet of the Government Necas.

Life

He studied at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Hradec Králové, where he was a lecturer since 1972. From 1990 to 1992 he held the positions of vice-dean there for Development and Chairman of the Academic Senate.

From 1996 to 2009 he was Director of the University Hospital Hradec Králové, until he was nominated in 2010 for the House of Representatives. He qualified in the field of Radiology ( lecturer) and was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences ( Ph.D.). From 1991 to 1993 he worked as Head of the Department of Radiology at University Hospital Hradec Králové and after the Velvet Revolution, he led the first CT laboratory in the Czech Republic.

Since 2002 he has worked in local government as a councilor in Hradec Králové for the ODS. In the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, he was elected as a representative of the party top 09 in the elections in 2010. In the region, he reached the first place among the local candidates. In 2008, he ran unsuccessfully for the Senate for the ODS in the Senate electoral district # 45 Hradec Králové, in the second round he lost to the nominated by the CSSD Vladímir Dryml.

Awards

He received a gold medal from the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Hradec Králové and the Manager of the Year Award 2007 from the town of Hradec Králové as primus inter pares.
