Lepidosauria

Zebra tail iguana ( callisaurus draconoides )

The superiority of the shed lizards ( Lepidosauria ) belongs to the reptiles. They comprise only two trims, the Squamata ( Squamata ), with about 6,000 species and Rhynchocephalia with only two extant species. Together with a number of fossil animal groups, especially the marine reptiles known as Sauropterygia, they are combined to form the Lepidosauromorpha.

Features

The scales of lizards are among the reptiles with diapsidem skull. Compared to other recent reptile groups such as turtles and crocodiles, they are characterized by many common features from them only ( apomorphies ). This includes especially the transverse standing cloaca, through their development probably lost the present in the basic pattern of Amniota unpaired penis of the males. Furthermore, the scales of lizards have a split at the top of tongue and show a reduction of Proatlas and xiphisternum on. Another key feature is the regular sloughing of the entire integument. A total of 48 features are given that confirm this taxon as monophyletic.
