Lepidosauromorpha

Tuatara ( Sphenodon )

  • Worldwide

The Lepidosauromorpha are a taxon of reptiles that includes all diapsiden reptiles ( Diapsida ) that are used as with the crocodiles and birds ( Archosauria ) closer to the lizards and snakes ( Squamata ).

Features

In contrast to the Archosaurs Lepidosauromorphen retain the movement of the early primitive Tetrapoda by the lateral, serpentine movement of the spine. You will develop a sternum, but which has a different structure and function than that of archosaurs and is not homologous with that already in the Upper Permian. The sternum extends the range of movement of the front legs. In addition, they retain the spreizbeinige position of the extremities and show no tendency to place her under the body, as it did for example the dinosaurs.

System

The Lepidosauromorpha includes all extinct marine reptiles ( Sauropterygia ), with the exception of the ichthyosaurs and marine crocodiles, and the scales of lizards ( Lepidosauria ) of today.
