Les Agettes ( officially until 1965 called Agettes ) is a municipality in the district Hérens in the French speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Geography

Les Agettes located in the central southern part of the canton of Valais and is 5.1 km ², the smallest municipality in the district Hérens and is above 12 kilometers away from Sion, on the southern slope of the Rhone Valley. The municipality consists of the settlements of Crête -à- l'oeil, La Vernaz and Les Agettes which lie at an altitude 980-1200 meters.

Neighboring municipalities of Les Agettes are customs, Salins and Veysonnaz in the north, east and south, and Vex Nendaz in the West.

History

The first mention is based on the name Agietes and is from the year 1190th The name was transformed into Gieti and since 1964 is called the community Agettes. A community of men and Agettes of Vernaz will be confirmed at the beginning of the 14th century. From the 12th century to Les Agettes belonged ecclesiastically to Vex. In 1382 a Mistral and in the 14th century a village community with La Vernaz is occupied.

The area of Les Agettes belonged to Zenden manners and was under the rule of the country bishop of Sion. It was up in 1798 has been awarded to various noble families. From 1798 to 1815, the village belonged to the district Hérémence. After a merger with the community Vex Les Agettes became an independent municipality in 1814. In 1965 the municipality was elevated to a parish.

The first sector has lost in the 20th century in favor of the second sector, and later of the third sector's weight (1910, 88 percent of the workforce, 75 percent in 1941, 1.8 percent in 1990 ). The tourist development and the proximity to customs resulted in a stabilization of the population.
