The Adventures of King Pausole (French: Les aventures du Roi Pausole ) is an operetta in three acts by Arthur Honegger in 1930 The libretto based on the novel by Pierre Louÿs of 1901 comes from Albert Willemetz, the German version by Hans. Zimmermann. The premiere took place on December 12, 1930 at the Théâtre des Bouffes in Paris and was given after a successful debut over 500 more times.
Although Honegger fame on monumental oratorio, symphonic music, and the religious stage work Johanna is based on the pyre, he has also written in the 1930s, three operettas, which documents his openness to different genres. The other operetta La Belle de Moudon of 1931 and Les Petites Cardinal from 1938 could not prevail in Germany. Les aventures du Roi also Pausole is nowadays rarely played.
The piece is the cheeky utopia of an anti -militarist, but emphasizes loss friendly state and at the same time with his cheeky innuendos and frivolous confusion a winking satire on the permissive zeitgeist of the 1920s.

Action
King Pausole in his fabled kingdom Tryphème Although a harem of 366 women, each of which "Queen for a Day" is an annual, so that would be taken care of plenty of amorous variety, but the ladies are enjoying no special interest on the part of the king. In vain strives Diane, today's " Queen of the service ", a being with him. The king knows quite different concerns: his beloved daughter Aline has in Prince Charming, in reality, the clad dancer Mirabelle, in love and ran off with him. Both travel back to Tryphème, the king quartered because of the precarious situation in his harem but the Hotel Royal Bouffe one. Also Aline and Mirabelle return and finally Aline takes in bold pages Giglio (which already had here and there to represent the king with his wives ) finally got the right man. After some further confusion Pausole finally gives his consent to a wedding and decides to abdicate as King and to be butterfly collector.
Music
The substantial absence of a plausible plot and interspersed with frivolous joke and spicy contemporary political allusions lewd text back the plant in the near Offenbach shear burlesque, whose value in the imaginative music of Honegger is that with influences from Spanish folklore, with jazz elements and sensitive melodies plays. Although the score contains hardly any really catchy tunes that have become well-known songs, but consists entirely of harmonic, rhythmic and sonically interesting pieces.
