Les Borges Blanques

Les Borges Blanques is a Catalan city in the province of Lleida, in northeastern Spain. It is the capital of Valle Garrigues.

Geographical location

The city is located about 20 kilometers southeast of Lleida on the A-2 motorway from Barcelona to Zaragoza as well as on the national road N -240 between Tarragona and Lleida. It has a station on the railway line from Barcelona to Lleida.

Economy

Agriculture traditionally has a great importance, especially the cultivation of olives, cereals, almonds and fruit. Today, there is also a diversified industrial and services sectors.

The olive oil produced in the region is popular worldwide, especially the oil of the Arbequina variety. In the middle of the 20th century, this oil was almost completely exported to Italy and sold as Italian oil or mixed to improve their own products.
