Lester Bird

Lester Bryant Bird ( born February 21, 1938) is an Antiguan politicians. From 1994 to 2004 he was the prime minister of the country. Prior to his political career, Bird was an excellent athlete.

Bird was 1971-1993 Chairman of the Antigua Labour Party. Following the resignation of his father Vere Cornwall Bird, he took over on 9 March, 1994 by him the premiership.

In the parliamentary elections of 1994 and 1999, he was confirmed in his office. In the elections in March 2004, his party lost eight seats and the United Progressive Party became the strongest party. On 24 March 2004 Baldwin Spencer was elected to Birds successor.
