Letsie II Lerotholi

Letsie II [ let͡siɪ ] (* 1869, † 1913 also Letsie Lerotholi; occasionally Letsienyana, German "Little Letsie " ) was from 1905 to 1913 head ( Sesotho Morena e Moholo, english Paramount Chief ) of the people of the Basotho in Basutoland, today Lesotho.

Life

Letsie II was the eldest son of the second wife of morena e Moholo Lerotholi. He grew up in his father's village, Likhoele at Matsieng. With his father he fought successfully against his uncle in 1898 Masopha.

On August 9, 1905 Lerotholi died. Letsie II was the first morena e Moholo, who was appointed by the British High Commissioner. He founded the village Phahameng between Likhoele and Moriah, where he resided from now on. Letsie II spoke out against the integration Basutolands into Founded in 1910, Union of South Africa. At the foundation of the South African National Council, the forerunner of the African National Congress, Letsie II was a chairman of the meeting. He died in 1913.
