Letter from an Unknown is an American film directed by Max Ophüls from the year 1948. It is based on the novel by Stefan Zweig Letter from an Unknown. The film had its April 28, 1948 in the U.S. premiere.

Content

The fifteen- year-old Lisa falls in love with the concert pianist Stefan Brand, who lives in the same apartment building with her. The love continues even when the girl moved with his mother from Vienna to Linz. When the girl then pulls with 18 years back to Vienna, she seeks to Stefan Brand and meets him actually know. However, this can not remember them and forget them just as quickly. From their shared love night comes from a child rearing promoting the now wife alone. As a single parent she meets Johann; the two married. Even years later, Stefan Brand recognizes still not back with a renewed encounter Lisa.
