Lev Lipatov

Lev Nikolayevich Lipatow (Russian Лев Николаевич Липатов, scientific transliteration Lev Nikolaevich Lipatov, born October 28, 1943 in Leningrad ) is a Russian theoretical physicist.

Lipatow is a student and close associate of Vladimir Naumovich Gribow in Saint Petersburg. He is currently (2008) Director of the Theory Division of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Saint Petersburg ( PNPI in Gatchina district ). He was, inter alia, to stays at DESY.

Lipatow is, among other things named after him, Dokshitzer, Gribow, Guido Altarelli and Giorgio Parisi evolution equations of structure functions in perturbative quantum chromodynamics ( QCD) is known ( DGLAP ), this applies for example in processes of deep inelastic scattering or pair annihilation. He developed the DGLAP together with Gribow about 1972. Lipatow also dealt with the behavior of the perturbation series for high orders in model quantum field theories such as scalar fields with quartischer self-interaction ( theories ), in which he showed the important role of instantons in the semiclassical approximation.

In 2001 he received the Pomeranchuk Prize. In 1997 he was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is a full member since 2011.
