Lev Mukhin

Lev Dmitrievich Mukhin (* October 15, 1936, † 25 April 1977) was a Soviet boxer. He won the silver medal in the heavyweight division at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.

Career

Lev Mukhin began the age of fifteen in 1951 in Rostov-on- Don with the boxes. He belonged to the Sports Association Spartak and was trained by his trainer KM Sokolov to a beating strong and technically good heavyweight boxer. Already in 1955 he launched with great success at the Soviet Championship in the heavyweight division. He only lost in the final against Richardas Juschkenas from Riga.

In 1956, he stood at the Soviet Championship again in the final battle. He arrived here on the experienced veteran and two-time European champion Algirdas Šocikas from Kaunas, who won just on points against the young Mukhin. Surprisingly, then Lev Mukhin was nominated in 1956 for the Olympic Games in Melbourne. There he won in the second round against Boschko Lozanow from Bulgaria by KO in the 3rd round, in the quarterfinals against Thomer Ashman from Sweden by way of knockout in the first round and in the semifinal against Giacomo Bozzano from Italy by way of knockout in the third round. In the final he met Pete Rademacher in the U.S.. In a duel extremely impact strong fighter Rademacher was the happier, because he met Mukhin sooner than this and it was still in the first round knockout winner and Olympic champion. In general, the heavyweight competition from Melbourne went down in sports history because of ten battles that took place in this weight class, eight ended prematurely.

After these Olympic Games was the career of Lev Mukhin, which had begun so auspiciously, practically already over. He appeared only once in an important competition in the winners' list, when he finished at the Soviet Championship in 1960 in the heavyweight behind Andrei Abramov and Janis Lancers 3rd place. In the semi-final he was beaten there by Janis Lancers on points.

Lev Mukhin 1977 died at the age of only 40 years.
