Lev Oborin

Lev Nikolayevich Oborin (Russian Лев Николаевич Оборин, scientific transliteration Lev Nikolaevich Oborin; * Augustjul 29 / 11 September 1907greg in Moscow, .. † January 5, 1974 in Moscow) was a Russian pianist.

Oborin studied piano at the Moscow Music School at Gnesins Jelena Gnesins, a pupil of Ferruccio Busoni, as well as composition with Alexander Gretschaninow. From 1921 to 1926 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory, piano with Konstantin Igumnov. In 1927 he won the first Chopin Competition.

After several concerts in Poland and Germany, he performed exclusively in Russia and also taught since 1928 at the Moscow Conservatory. 1935 began a lifelong artistic partnership with the violinist David Oistrakh, with whom he to 1963 ( the death of the participating cellist Sviatoslav Knuschewitzki ) also formed a well-known trio of 1941. In 1948 he was appointed professor at the Moscow Conservatory.

Oborin played numerous premieres by composers of the 20th century, for example, by Khachaturian, whose piano concerto is dedicated to him, from Schebalin, Myaskovsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. As a teacher he had countless students who had known without a doubt Vladimir Ashkenazy and Katarina Nowitskaja. The German pianist Peter Rosel studied with Oborin.
