Lev Ponomaryov

Lev Alexandrovich Ponomarev (Russian Лев Александрович Пономарёв; born September 2, 1941 in Tomsk ) is a Russian politician and human rights activist. He is chairman of the All-Russian Movement " Sa Prawa tscheloweka " ( " For Human Rights " ), and was from 1990 to 1993 Member of the National Assembly of the Russian Federation. He was 1991/1992 chairman of a parliamentary committee of inquiry to the August coup in Moscow. He is a member of the Political Council of the United Democratic Movement " Solidarnost ". It was founded in 1994 after the Russian constitutional crisis deputy of the Duma (until 1996 ).

Biography

He studied at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology ( MIPT ) from 1965 and made in 1968 his exams. He is a doctor of physico- mathematical sciences. He worked at the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR ( ITEP ) and was a part-time teaching at MIPT in the Division of General Physics.

In 1993 he had unsuccessfully candidate on the list of association " Russia's Choice " for the Duma. He eventually won a mandate as substitutes of the late Basil deputies Seljunin. From 1994 to 1996 he was a deputy of the Duma and among other things, Member of the Committee for CIS Affairs. In 1997, Lev Ponomarev, initiated the creation of the All-Russian Movement " For Human Rights " and served as Executive Director.

The association "Other Russia" he belongs to since its establishment in July 2006 and is a member of the Executive Committee. He defended the former owner of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Yukos and other relatives. In 2007, he called President Putin for the release of Khodorkovsky. In 2009, along with other activists of the "Solidarity" - Roman Dobrochotow, Oleg Kozlovsky, Alexander Ryklin, Sergei Davidis, Michael Schneider, Vladimir Milov, Garry Kasparov and Boris Nemtsov - he was referring picketing Meshchansky court and held a banner " freedom for Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev ".

In the late evening of March 31, 2009 he was beaten near his apartment. At a meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States on 1 April 2009 Barack Obama mentioned, among others, the attack on Ponomariov. End of January 2010 he was arrested after a demonstration in Moscow.

On 10 March 2010, he signed a manifesto of the Russian opposition, under the title "Putin must go. " On 25 August 2010 he was sentenced to three days in jail for contempt of the National flag of the Russian Federation on Arbat on August 22. On September 7 of the same year he was sentenced to four days in jail for disobeying the police.

In 2010 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland by decree of President Lech Kaczyński " for outstanding achievements in the field of protection of human rights and the promotion of civil liberties ."

Ponomarjows office was vacated in June 2013 by the OMON. The Commissioner for Human Rights Vladimir Petrovich Lukin spoke of a fraction of the Russian Constitution.

Lev Ponomarev is married to Vera Schabelnikowa. Lew Ponomarjows daughters from his first marriage Elena Liptser and Ksenia Kostromina are known lawyers.
