Levan Varshalomidze

Levan Warschalomidse (Georgian ლევან ვარშალომიძე; born January 17, 1972 in Batumi ) is a Georgian politician (United National Movement ). The lawyer was from Januar until May 2004 Director General of the Georgian Railway. Since July 2004 he is Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Life

Youth and studies

Warschalomidse grew up as the son of an influential adjarian family in Batumi. His father Guram Warschalomidse, the 1992 Warschalomidses Aslan Abashidze predecessor founded the company Adscharische shipping company and later was chief of the Statistical Office of Adjara.

Warschalomidse presented at the 6th High School in Batumi from a high school with honors. From 1989 to 1994 he studied law at the University of Kiev. In 1992 he studied at the same time at the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg, in 1993 at the Academy of European Law in Florence and at the Institute of Public International Law and International Relations, Thessaloniki. In 1999 he received his doctorate from the University of Kiev in private law.

Ministry official and lawyer

1998 Warschalomidse was Head of bilateral relations and international law in the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2000 Department Head of the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice. In 2002 he became Head of the Legal Department in the Ministry of Finance.

Warschalomidse fell out with President Eduard Shevardnadze and retired in March 2002 from the civil service from. He was a research associate at the National Law Institute of Georgia, founded in September 2003, together with the later Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli and the later Justice Minister Gia Kavtaradze the legal and financial consulting firm Damenia, Warschalomidse, Noghaideli & Kavtaradze ( DVNK ) in Tbilisi.

Prime Minister of Adjara

On 23 January 2004 President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed him as director of the State Railway of Georgia. After the change of power in Ajara, he was appointed by the President to the administrative head of Adjara on 5 May 2004. On 20 July 2004 he was elected the adscharische Parliament, the Supreme Council, the Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic.

Ten months after his inauguration, he came under suspicion to have occupied key positions in the government with family members. The deputy Eka Chercheulidse ( National Movement - Democrats ) presented on March 3, 2005, a list of 18 people who had not been set for their personal qualifications. Warschalomidse pointed all the blame from themselves.
