Lewis Elton

Lewis RB Elton (* 1923 in Tübingen under the name Ludwig Ehrenberg ) is a British educational researchers.

Life

Lewis Elton was born in Tübingen, the son of the Ancient Historian Victor Ehrenberg and teacher Eva Dorothea summer. The Jewish family moved to Prague in 1929 and fled from there in 1939 from the Nazis to England. He changed his name and acquired British citizenship.

Elton studied physics and in 1964 professor at the Battersea College of Technology. In 1970 the College was transformed into a university and moved its headquarters to Guildford. Elton was then Professor of Higher Education, a position he held until 1988. In 1994 he became a professor at University College London, where he founded the Department of Research and Development for Higher Education. In 2003 he was appointed Honorary Professor, 2005, he was a visiting professor in Manchester.

Elton is "Fellow" at the American Institute of Physics and the Society for Research into Higher Education. In 2005 he received at the Times Higher Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

His brother is the historian Geoffrey Elton, his son, the comedian Ben Elton.
