Lewis Moonie, Baron Moonie

Lewis George Moonie, Baron Moonie, of Bennochy in Fife ( 25 * February 1947 in Dundee) is a British pharmacologist and Labour Party politician, who for nearly 18 years Member of the House of Commons was, and since 2005 as a life peer member of the House of Lords.

Life

Studies and professional career as a physician

After visiting the Grove Academy Moonie began studying medicine at the University of St Andrews and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery ( MBCh.B. ) from. After graduating, he worked 1970-1975 in various medical uses and earned a doctorate in 1975 from specialist podiatry (DPM ). Subsequently, he was from 1976 to 1980 worked as a senior medical advisor and clinical pharmacologist at pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands, Switzerland and in Edinburgh in 1979 and a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

In the following years he completed postgraduate studies in health sciences at the University of Edinburgh, which he finished in 1981 with a Master of Science ( M.Sc.) in Community Medicine. During this time he began in 1980 to work as a trainee for Health Sciences at the Health Centre of Fife and was followed there from 1984 to 1987 Consultant for public health.

House of Commons Member of Parliament and the House of Lords member

In the general election on 11 May 1987 Moonie was first elected as a candidate of the Labour Party as a delegate in the House of Commons and represented there nearly 18 years the constituency of Kirkcaldy, before he resigned at the general election on 5 May 2005 in a bid again. In his last re-election at the general election on 7 June 2001, he was able to defend yourself against the Kandidation the Scottish National Party, Shirley -Anne Somerville, prevail.

By Letters Patent of 22 June 2005 Moonie was raised after his retirement from the House of Commons as a life peer with the title Baron Moonie, of Bennochy in Fife to the peerage. Shortly thereafter, took place on July 5, 2005 his Introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house he belongs to the Group of the Labour Party.
