Lezhë County

The Qark Lezha (Albanian Qarku i Lezhës ) is one of twelve Qarks in Albania. It is located in northern Albania, has an area of 1,588 km ² and 158,800 inhabitants (2009 ). The capital is Lezhë.

Geography

The Qark Lezha consists of three circles Kurbin, Lezha and Mirdita with Lezha as historical and administrative center. To the west of Qark Lezha borders on the Adriatic Sea. After not too long coastline is mountainous Mirdita mountain land rises. Important rivers are the Drin, the Mat and the fan

North of the Qarks is the Qark Shkodra, northeast of Qark Kukes, southeast of Qark Dibra and south of Qark Durres.

Population

The statistics office Instituti i Statistikës stated 158,800 inhabitants for the year 2009 for the Qark Lezha. The Qark authorities, however, called for the January 2007, a significantly higher number: 212 008 inhabitants. The 2011 census, however, has made ​​only 135 609 inhabitants, which represents a decrease of almost 15 % over the last ten years. 2001 or 159 792 inhabitants were recorded.

Politics and Administration

The Qark Council ( Alb. Këshilli i Qarkut ) is one of 45 members of whom belong to the majority of the Democratic Party (PD). Also, the acting chairman of the Council, Pashk Gjoni, is a member of the PD.

The Qark provides seven deputies of a total of 140 for the 2009 and 2013 legislative sessions beginning of the Albanian parliament
