Liam Naughten

Liam William Anthony Naughten (* May 30, 1944, † 16 November 1996) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael.

Biography

Naughten, who was originally a farmer, was founded in 1974 for the first time a member of the Grafschaftssrates ( County Council ) of the County Roscommon. In 1981 he was elected as a candidate of the Fine Gael for the first time a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and represented there until 1982, the Section for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, called the Agricultural panel. Previously, he was a candidate for both 1977 and 1981 unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons.

Thereafter, he was elected a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented in this between 1982 and his election defeat in 1989 the constituency of Roscommon. Subsequently, he was again a member of the Senate and was this as a representative of the Agricultural Panel until his death on.

Shortly after the election, he was on 8 November 1989, Vice- President of the Senate ( Leas - Chathaoirleach ) and held this office until 11 July 1995. 1991 he was again a member of the County Council Roscommon and was this as a representative for the constituency Athlone to his death. In 1992 he stood as a candidate in the constituency of Longford Roscommon again unsuccessfully for a seat in the lower house candidate.

Last time was Naughten of 12 July 1995 until his death from a road traffic accident on November 16, 1996 Cathaoirleach and therefore President of the Senate.

After his death, his son Denis Naughten was a member of the Senate and thus to the hitherto youngest senator in the history of Ireland.
