Liaquat Ahamed

Liaquat Ahamed (* around 1953 in Kenya) is an Indian- American author and investment banker who won for the Pulitzer Prize for History 2010 " The Men of the money ". He has worked for the World Bank and Fischer, Francis, Trees and Watts, a New York-based investment firm. He is currently a consultant working for several hedge funds and sits on the board of trustees of the Brookings Institution.

Book

Ahamed published in 2009 the book Lords of Finance. The Bankers who Broke the World. Heinemann, London 2009, ISBN 978-0-434-01541-2. It was awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for history.

The book is dedicated to the events that led to the Great Depression of 1929 and the subsequent devastating reactions of the world's biggest central banks. It portrays the life and actions of the former heads of the central banks of the four largest economies: Benjamin Strong Jr. of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Montagu Norman of the Bank of England, Emile Moreau of the Banque de France, and Hjalmar Schacht of the Reichsbank.

In Germany the book was published under the title The Men of money. As four bankers triggered the Great Depression and drove the world into bankruptcy. Financial Accounting -Verlag, Munich 2010, ISBN 978-3-89879-578-4.
