Liberal League (Finland)

The Liberal Federation or Confederation of Free Democrats ( Finnish: Vapaamielisten liitto (VL ), Swedish: De Frisinnades Förbund ) was an existing 1951-1965 political party in Finland.

In the spring of 1951, the National Progressive Party disbanded, whereupon the People's Party of Finland and the Liberal founded covenant. The majority of former members of the Progressive Party were a member of the People's Party while a minority led by Sakari Tuomioja and the so-called " Helsinki Group " liberals founded covenant. The influence of the Federal Liberals remained low, the best election result he achieved in the parliamentary election in 1962 with 0.52 %. It was also the only choice after Erkki Paavola a member of the party was able to move in the Finnish parliament. Tuomioja conducted between November 1953 and May 1954 the transitional government, in 1956, he stood as a candidate in the presidential election, and was also supported by the conservative National Coalition Party. In the election meeting his candidacy was withdrawn before the second ballot, in the vain hope of thereby preventing the victory of the Land League candidates Urho Kekkonen.

In 1965, the combined Liberal Federation and the People's Party of Finland to the Liberal People's Party.

The party published the leaves Tiedoituskirje (1952-1953) and Vapaamielinen ( 1954-1965 ). She was also a member of the Liberal International.
