Lichtenfels Forest

The Lichtenfelser forest is a forest area north- west of the town of Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia.

The vegetation consists largely of coniferous forest monoculture, in limited areas, mixed forest with beech and oak cultures.

During the High Middle Ages the vast forest belonged to the monastery of Banz. The northern border area was inhabited by the Lords of Sonneberg in the 13th century.
