Lídia Jorge

Lidia Jorge ( born June 18, 1946 in Boliqueime ) is a Portuguese writer.

Life

Your youth she spent as an only child in the mother and other female family members in the Algarve. After her schooling in Faro, she moved to Lisbon and studied at the University of Lisbon Romance. With her ​​first husband, an Air Force officer, she held during the Portuguese colonial war in Angola a few years and then in Mozambique.

Already her first novel O dia dos prodigios ( The day of miracles) became a major work of modern Portuguese literature.

Awards and prizes

For her novels she was together with her long-time translator Karin von Schweder - Schreiner won the 2006 the first ever albatross Literature Prize. Lidia Jorge received on 15 December 2010 an honorary doctorate from the Universidade do Algarve to mark the release of their debut work o dia dos prodigios 30 years ago.
