Lidingöbanan

Lidingöbanan is a suburban tramway in Sweden, which connects the island of Lidingö, Stockholm. It is operated on behalf of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). The train on the line between the underground terminus Ropsten and at the terminus Gåshaga Brygga on the southern part of Lidingö.

History

Today's train was at the beginning still SSLidJ (Stockholm Södra Lidingöns Järnväg ). Since start of operations in 1914 up to the 1990s, the route of Trafik AB Stockholm Södra Lidingön was operated, this is since 1969 a subsidiary of SL. Today the route of Veolia Transport operates as a subcontractor for SL.

Previously drove the orbits of Lidingöbana up in the center of Stockholm. Terminus was Humlegarden here. In addition, there was also on the northern part Lidingös own railway line, Norra Lidingöbanan. This was eventually shut down in 1971 after the purchase of Trafik AB Stockholm Södra Lidingön by SL and thus also the operator of the northern route in 1969 and dismantled.

In 1967 when the right-hand traffic was introduced in Sweden, the connection has been set up Humlegarden, and served as the future terminus henceforth Ropsten, the then newly opened metro station.

The age of the bridge ( Gamla Lidingöbron ) over which drive the cars, but also pedestrians can go, makes for some years for discussions. There were fears that the bridge could no longer satisfy the security requirements. Since a new building was considered questionable, there were considerations Ropsten and the first stop on Lidingö, Torsvik to connect with buses and shut down the bridge. The bridge, however, was to certify an extraordinarily good condition, so that the same considerations are not initially pursued by more recent reports.
