Lieutenant general

The Lieutenant General ( Lieutenant General, GL), International (English lieutenant general, LtGen ), in a variety of forces, a three -star general from the rank group of generals, changed its position in the hierarchy throughout history.

Historical

As a lieutenant general of the Holy Roman Emperor in peace representing the highest officer was called in the 16th and 17th centuries on the one hand. In the German armed forces of Lieutenant General was comparable to today's general rank of two- star general until 1945. In the medical service of the Armed Forces are the equivalent to this rank of Surgeon- General and the Admiral Surgeon.

Switzerland

In the Swiss army corresponds to the lieutenant general of the degree of the corps commander.
