Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man

The Vice- Governor of the Isle of Man (English Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man, Manx Fo - chiannoort ) is the agent of the Lord of Mann, currently Elizabeth II, Man on the island.

The Board must give the authority to the royal approval (royal assent ) to laws, and is addressed as " Your Excellency ". More recently, the Lieutenant Governor has always been a former diplomat or service senior member of the army. So far had no indigenous Manx held the office, although the Manx Deemster (as Deputy Vice- Governors ex officio ) in the transitional period between two vice governors exercised the same functions.

History

Once exercised, the Vice Governor of all judicial, financial and executive power, and had about 1900 more power over its territory than any other representative in the Commonwealth. However, he lost his position as head of jurisdiction, 1980. President of the House of Lords and in 1990 finally the President of Tynwald Today, the Lieutenant Governor met mainly formal and representational tasks, but carries through his charitable work essential to life on the island with.

In October 2005, the Tynwald wanted the title of Lieutenant Governor to Barrantagh y Chrooin in Manx and Crown Commissioner ( Kronkommissar ) can change in English. The proposal was submitted to the Department of Constitutional Affairs delivered for forwarding to the Lord of Mann Elizabeth II. In April 2006, the Tynwald pulled his own proposal, together with a request for royal assent after fierce criticism from the public back. Therefore, the Office retained the previous title.
