Life x 3

Three times life ( Trois versions de la vie) is the fifth play of the French writer Yasmina Reza.

The piece was premiered on 29 October 2000 at the Vienna Academy Theatre, directed by Luc Bondy and developed rapidly as a top hit as her first big success on the stage art.

The Vienna production with the legendary line ( Susanne Lothar, Ulrich Mühe, Andrea Clausen and Sven -Eric Bechtholf ) had such a great success that the staging of the theater meeting was invited in May 2001 to Berlin. Other German -speaking stages secured by the presence of the German translation as soon as possible the performance rights. The Bondy staging was often invited to guest performances, she experienced a total of 93 performances.

The premiere of the French original was on 7 November 2000 at the Théâtre Antoine in Paris, the English-language premiere at the Royal National Theatre London followed on 7 December 2000.

Action

Three times life is reduced to a classical basic situation 4-person piece. The couple Finidori ( Hubert and Ines ) visited another, through an oversight, however, a day early, exposing the main conflict more quickly and tapers. In itself it comes to the question of whether the landlord Henri can sponsor his career by his guest Hubert ( both men are astrophysicist ); in the foreground but urges that evening the problem, such as Henri deal with a seemingly casually mentioned by Hubert message that might makes his standing before the completion of three years of research to waste. The other couple also has a child who repeatedly calls from the children out for the parents, which always causes arguments to educational principles at the couple. What could be it developed or developing in confrontations and shifting coalitions, is ( as the title) played out on the stage in three " versions ".

The piece thus emphasizing the artistic character of the theater, is timeless and modern at the same time, action is rich and yet psychologically profound, vacillates between banality and Ernst and entertains through incisive dialogues full of bad joke.
