Lilí Álvarez

Elijah " Lili " Maria González- Álvarez López y Chic Heri ( born May 9, 1905 in Rome, Italy, † 8 July 1998 in Madrid, Spain) was a Spanish tennis player, author and journalist.

Life

Alvarez won 1929 with the Dutch Kea Bouman the doubles title at the French Tennis Championships in Paris ( French Open today ) against the South Africans Bobby Heine and Alida Neave 7:5, 6:3. The Spaniard reached in the years 1926-1928 three times the final of the Wimbledon Championships, but lost a playoff against Kathleen McKane Godfree and two finals against Helen Wills Moody. 1930, 1931, 1936 and 1937, she reached the semifinals of the French Open.

In 1930 she won the first tennis tournament of the women in Rome.
