Lillebonne
Lille Bonne is a commune with 8880 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Maritime in the Haute -Normandie; it belongs to Arrondissement Le Havre and Lille Canton Bonne.
History
Lillebonne was for a time the capital of the Gallic tribe of the Caletes. In Gallo- Roman times it was known as " Juliobona " and is mentioned under the name of Claudius Ptolemy (II, 8, 11). Juliobona had an amphitheater, a Mithraeum and spas. The stones of these buildings were used in the following centuries for city walls and the construction of the Abbey Jumièges. In late Roman time in Juliobona a Roman garrison was stationed.
