Lilli Promet

Lilli Promet ( born February 16, 1922 in Petseri, Republic of Estonia, † February 16, 2007 in Tallinn, Estonia) was an Estonian writer and journalist.

Life and work

Lilli Promet Linda was the daughter of the Estonian painter Aleksander Promet (1879-1938) (District Petseri ) born in the southeastern district Petserimaa that belonged in the interwar period, the Republic of Estonia.

After her schooling in Tallinn, she studied from 1935 to 1940 at the State School of Applied Arts in Tallinn the tray art pottery. 1940/41 and 1944 to 1951 she worked as a journalist in the Estonian SSR. During the German occupation of Estonia (1941-1944) Promet worked in Leningrad in the Estonian program of the Soviet radio.

Lilli Promet entered the 1950s as one of the most prolific Estonian writers and poets in appearance. Especially her short stories and their literary collagen attracted attention. Her works have been translated into several languages.

Her three novels - Meesteta küla ( " the village without men ", 1962), Primavera (1971) and tüdrukud taevast ( " The girl from the sky ", 1979) - have to be with the tragic fate of Estonians in or after the Second World War do. Primavera was translated and printed in the GDR into German. It published two preliminary reviews and an announcement in the epilogue of the German edition of Tiger Resting before the delivery, was apparently stopped by the GDR authorities of the political sensitivity of the substance.

Lilli Promet was a member of the Estonian Communist Party ( ECP ) during the Soviet occupation of Estonia. Promet received in 1971 the award " earned writer of the Estonian SSR ". In 1989 she was made an honorary member of the Estonian Association of Cinema.

Promet was with the Estonian writer Ralf Parve (1919-2011) married. Their son was the Estonian journalist, historian and politician Ralf R. Parve (1946-2008), who belonged from 1992 to 1995 as a Member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).
