Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte

Liloy is a Philippine municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte. It has 39.015 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ).

Origin of the name

The first settlers saw at one point, which is now near the barangays ( hamlet ) Lamao, a strudelndes water, which is called in their dialect Lilo. This meant that the whole place was named Lilo. In later generations, or possibly by the incoming Christian settlers, the letter y was added and led to the modern place- name.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northwestern part of the peninsula of Zamboanga. It is surrounded by the municipality Salug in the east, from the south and Tampilisan of Labason in the West. In the north, the coastline of the town is the access to the Sulu Sea.

The municipality has a total area of 159 km ², with about 78 % of them are used agriculturally.

The nearest town, Dipolog City, located 132 km north-east and can be reached via a good road. In the southeast of the community is Zamboanga City, which is 184 km away.

Language and religion

With a share of 92% of the Cebuano dialect is the most widely used in the community. The following are the languages ​​Subanon with a share of 6% and Tausug with 1.04% of the population.

In the religious communities with 87.28 % belong to the majority of the inhabitants of the Roman Catholic faith. It follows Islam 2%, Iglesia ni Cristo with the 1.06 % and the Aglipay with 1%.

Economy

The relevant sources of income of the village is fishing and agriculture. Are grown mainly coconuts, rice, corn, peanuts, Mongo and other root vegetables.

The industrial areas are found in the barangays Timan and Sta. Cruz. The community also has its own small harbor.

History

Originally Liloy was once a barrio of the municipality Sindangan. Only in the year 1951, the place of his mother church split off and was replaced with effect of Executive Order No. 469, signed by President Elpidio Quirino, on August 22 of this year as a separate parish.

In 1959, the municipality Salug and 1978 of Barangay ( village ) Tampilisan of Liloy then split off, so that the church lost much of their legal administrative domain.

Climate

The congregation of Liloy heard, like most other places of Zamboanga del Norte, the climate type four.
