Limache

Limache is a city in the middle of the South American Andean country Chile. It is situated in the Región de Valparaíso about ten kilometers northeast of Villa Alemana and 32 kilometers from Valparaíso in the province quillota. It has around 39,000 inhabitants ( 2005).

The northern part of the city called San Francisco de Limache and the southern part Limache Viejo. The city's name comes from the indigenous people and is formed from the words Lli -Machi, of lli ( rock ) and machi ( magician ).

History

1634, the city as Santa Cruz de Limache ( Limache Viejo) by Ramón de la Cerda was founded. 1776 bought José Joaquín Sánchez Dueñas the Hacienda San Pedro y Limache. After his death the land was divided among his sons. In February 1828 was established in the south of the hamlet of Villa Alegre de Limache Limache. In 1856 she got a railway connection.

On January 27, 1857 San Francisco de Limache was officially established, but received only on 10 November 1896, the city rights. 1966, the district Olmué became an independent city.

Economy

The area around Limache one of the largest tomato -growing regions in Chile. Limache is the third largest producer of vegetables in Chile with 1,023 hectares.

The city houses a historical museum that Museo Histórico Palmira Romano Piraino in the city's history and exhibitions.

Infrastructure

The city is located on Camino Troncal which Valparaiso and La Calera links.

The city's railway station you can take the Metro Regional de Valparaíso to Villa Alemana, Quilpué, Viña del Mar and Valparaíso.
