The Limnochromini are a tribe of cichlids ( Cichlidae ), which is endemic in Lake Tanganyika and there, in contrast to most, especially in the shallow waters of the coastal regions occurring cichlids, especially the deeper water layers populated ( 40-100 m).

Features

Limnochromini species are 8.5 to 23.5 cm long and have elongated, little hochrückige but laterally flattened body significantly. The snout is pointed, the mouth terminal. The dorsal fin is long, drawn out, the pelvic fins, the caudal fin usually closes from dull. The coloring of the Limnochromini species is usually uniformly gray, beige or brown with little color contrasting patterns. The fish eat invertebrates, which they catch in the open water or mud and sand seven. All Limnochromini species are monogamous and mouthbrooders during the breeding season, at which both parents participate in brood care. The nests are relatively large and can contain up to 250 eggs.
