Lindesberg

Lindenberg is a town in the Swedish province of Orebro Lan and a typical industrial site in the region that bears the name of Bergslagen. The city lies about 40 km north of Örebro, has good 8,700 inhabitants and is the capital of the municipality of the same name. In the south of the town is the lake Lindessjön.

History

The first stone church in the village was probably built in the 14th century. From this building you can still find stones in the choir of the current church. Until the mid-17th century, the place was called Lindesås. Contrast, Lindenberg was the name of the surrounding pit area. In the late Middle Ages, the Kirchendorft was a key trading center in the region. In connection with the expansion of the mining industry and the place became increasingly important.

The following period was marked by a rivalry with the city of Arboga, where Lindenberg maintained its position as a center for iron trade. The real expansion came in 1870 when the place got a railway connection. The large fires of 1869 and 1894 many buildings were damaged.
