Lingbo

Lingbo is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg County, in the extreme south of the historic province of Hälsingland near the border with Gastrikland.

Location

Lingbo belongs to the municipality Ockelbo. The village is located about 50 km as the crow northwest of the provincial capital of Gävle and about 20 km north of the community center Ockelbo on the western shore of Lake Lingan, which is crossed by the river Gopan. Located in the wooded area Ödmården Lingbo is the second largest town of the community according to its central place Ockelbo.

The town has a station on the railway line from Gävle after Ånge ( Norra stambanan, kilometer 56), part of the main route from Central Sweden to the north. By Lingbo leads the provincial highway 272 which runs parallel to the European Route 4 Gysinge about Sandviken and Ockelbo and further north adjoins the national road 83 in direction Bollnäs, Ljusdal and Ånge.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1436 as Lingabodher. In the 19th century a sawmill and various woodworking enterprises emerged after the construction of the railway in 1881 a foundry with " mechanical workshop " ( Lingbo Verkstäder ).

Today's white wooden church of Lingbo was ordained in 1829. The place belonged first to the parish Skog and was until 1923 the center of an independent parish.

The population of the town declined since the mid-20th century (1960: eur 769 ) by almost half.

Economy

In Lingbo there are a number of smaller craft and other establishments. Many residents commute to the nearest larger cities Gävle and Bollnäs that can be reached by train in half an hour. A certain role is played in the summer of Tourism: there is a campsite on Lake Lingan.
