Sandviken
Sandviken is a town in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and the historic province Gastrikland. It is located about 20 kilometers west of Gävle on the lake Storsjön and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.
History
Sandviken was founded in 1862. The founder, Göran Fredrik Göransson Consul, built a steel plant on the northern, sandy bay, large lake. Four years earlier, he had succeeded first scheduling, perform the Bessemer process in a big way. The expansion of the steel plant also led to an increase of the place, in 1900 already had 6,000 inhabitants.
