Linux Magazine

Linux Magazine is a journal that is published by the Medialinx AG. It is aimed at readers who work professionally with Linux. Linux Magazine is the second oldest magazine about Linux (and claims to be the oldest in Europe ) worldwide. The first issue appeared in October 1994 Magazine of the Delug. The slogan of the magazine is " The Magazine for Linux Professionals ".

The printed edition is given as 36,000 (as of February 18, 2013 ).

Publication

The magazine is published monthly on every first Thursday of the month. An edition retails for € 5.95 in Germany, Austria and € 6.30 in 11.00 sfr in Switzerland. Since issue 11/2008, there are at the kiosk in parallel an issue with the so-called Delug DVD for 8.50 € (9.95 € in Austria and 17,00 sfr in Switzerland) free to buy. This book with disk was previously only in the form of a special subscription.

A quarterly special edition is published with special topics such as networking, security or hardware. It costs € 9.80. Furthermore, issues of Linux Magazine exist in English, Polish, Romanian, Portuguese and Spanish.

Content

Linux Magazine is aimed primarily at professional Linux users. Every month will be treated emphases. These come from different areas of the Linux environment: Internet applications, programming, security, etc.

There are also some fixed headings which are represented in each issue:

  • InSecurity News (now Insecurity Bulletin online) by Mark Vogelsberger

It is worth mentioning that the Linux Magazine was the only German -language magazine that reports on news from the security environment in detail (about 5 pages per issue ) per month. Author of this was from 1999 until 2011 Mark Vogel Berger, supervising editor since 2009 Nils Magnus, previously Achim Leitner. The idea for the InSecurity news originally came from Mark Vogelsberger. Meanwhile, the news InSecurity have found its way into the international editions of Linux Magazine. The InSecurity News were replaced by the Insecurity Bulletin as an online blog in May 2011. This now provides more detailed articles and analysis of current security vulnerabilities.
