Liptov

Liptau (Slovak Liptov, Hungarian Liptó, latin Liptovium, Polish Liptow ) is the name of a region in northern Slovakia. Derived from it is the name of the former Hungarian county Liptau, the name itself is derived from the main castle of the area, the Liptauer castle.

The area lies in today's Central Slovakia, the Slovak Liptov name is now used as an unofficial name given to this area and as the official designation of a tourist region.

The tourism region Liptau (Slovak Liptovsky región cestovného ruchu ) extends over the districts of:

  • Liptovsky Mikulas
  • Ružomberok

After the designated region of the spread is Liptauer.
