List of countries by iron ore production

In the list of the largest iron ore conveyor tables and graphs are presented with accurate information about iron ore.

Overview

In 2011, the People's Republic of China were ( 1.2 billion tons ), Australia (480 million tons ) and Brazil (390 million tons ), the three major iron ore producing countries, which together accounted for 73.9 per cent of the world's sponsored 2, 8 billion tons possessed. Important mining areas in Europe are located in Russia, Ukraine and Sweden.

The economically recoverable reserves in 2011 by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS) estimated at 170 billion tons worldwide. With constant promotion of iron ore could be obtained even for about 61 years. The largest reserves are found in Australia ( 20.6 percent ), Brazil ( 17.1 percent ) and Russia ( 14.7 percent). Large parts of Australia's promotion will be exported to China. In the Amazon jungle of Brazil, in the Serra dos Carajás, the largest iron ore deposit in the world, there is an estimated 17 billion tonnes of iron ore bands, obtained in a huge open pit.

In the non-European countries, but also in Russia and Ukraine mainly higher ores are cheaper promoted and offered than by the producers in the European Union. Therefore, almost all former -producing countries in the EU, for example, Luxembourg (1982 ), UK (1993 ), Spain ( 1997) and France ( 2003), ceased production, or significantly reduced in Germany. Also in Liberia, which belonged to the outbreak of the civil war in 1989, the largest producing countries of the world, the reduction in 1993 was set.

The demand increased since the beginning of the 21st century too much, as mainly the People's Republic of China, several countries in East Asia and the United States increased its steel production. The resulting shortage caused in the commodities market (ore, scrap steel ) led to an increase in world market prices.

Production, reserves and reserve base

The Geological Survey of the United States ( United States Geological Survey ) offers this definition: The reserve base ( reserve base) is that part of an identified resource that meets the specific physical and chemical minimum criteria for the current mining and production practices, including those for salary, quality, thickness and depth. The reserves ( reserves ) are that part of the reserve base which could be economically extracted at a certain time or produced. The term does not mean that extraction systems are installed and working. Reserves include only exploitable materials.

Listed are the countries with the biggest promotion and the highest reserves in million tonnes. The publication of data on the reserve base was set in 2009.
