List of diplomatic missions of Austria

In 82 states, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently maintains embassies, consulates and cultural forums. In addition, permanent representations to international organizations in twelve cities.

Legal bases

The Foreign Service of Austria is part of the General Administrative Service of the Federation and is subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It lays down tasks and organization of the foreign service in the same statute of 1999. It includes " embassies, legations, Austrian Permanent Representations to the European Union and other international organizations and at international organizations and at international conferences, missions to international organizations and at international conferences, and delegations to international conferences or other international institutions, consulates general and consulates "(§ 4 Z.1 ), and also the line " of the Austrian cultural institutes and other by the Minister set up for foreign Affairs for the purpose of carrying out certain functions overseas departments "(§ 4 Z. 2, Austrian Cultural Forum, Foreign Trade and Austria, among others). For foreign service also includes representatives of international organizations in Austria. At the Ministry a Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, and an Inspector General operates a diplomatic mission is a department of the Ministry and is headed by a Head of Service (with vacancy a chargé d'affaires ad interim, § 4 Z.3 ), with a chancellor for the summary treatment of the administrative technical and budgetary matters (§ 5). Foreign Representatives have special duties ( § 18.19 ), and will be staffed on a rotational basis (§ 15).
