List of Emperors of China's Northern Dynasties

The Northern Dynasties (Chinese北朝, Pinyin Beichao ) denote a short-lived Turkish- Mongolian foreign rule in North China of the Five Dynasties during the period of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. They stood in a destructive tension between the culture of China and those of Mongolian, Turkish and Tibetan nomads.

The majority of the Han people of northern China reigning master at the time of the Wei Dynasty were the Turkish Tabgatsch, also called Toba. The most significant Toba ruler was To'pa Tao ( † 452). He resided in Ta -t'ung at the edge of the steppe, was sinicized and persecuted Buddhism in China.
