List of honorary citizens of Hamburg

The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg until today 35 people made an honorary citizen, the highest distinction awarded to the Hamburg awarded.

The right of conferment of the honorary citizenship is to the Senate and was first performed by him alone. Mayor Rudolf Petersen announced the withdrawal of the two honorary citizenships on June 7, 1945 in a response letter to Attorney Hans Hertz, who had requested this on the 5th of the month from him.
