List of Mozambican films

The Mozambican film comprises the national filmmaking Mozambique.

One of the first acts of the socialist Frelimo government of President Samora Machel after the country's independence in 1975 was the establishment of the National Film Institute, INC. Machel, who had been invited at the time of the liberation struggle him well-meaning filmmaker in his sphere, saw in the film a chance to spread his ideas in a populated mostly by illiterate country. Soon the Film Institute entertained 40 cinemas, especially in the big cities as well as mobile projectors from the Soviet Union, with which films were shown in the market places of the villages and Mozambique became the second largest film producer in southern Africa.

In 1976, the native of Mozambique Ruy Guerra, " father" of the new Brazilian film, calling the revolutionary government to return to his home country and to participate in the development of a national film production. Famous directors like Jean -Luc Godard also came to support to Mozambique. However, the Mozambican Civil War brought forth a stricter censorship and the death of Samora Machel in 1986 led to a declining importance of film production in Mozambique, as the media policy of his successors had their focus while watching TV. Much of the early Mozambican film production is now threatened due to the tropical humid climate and lack of funds for proper storage of the decomposition.

Since 2006, takes place every year in Mozambique Film Festival documentary DOCKANEMA in Maputo (2011 in Berlin).
