List of political parties in Rwanda

The list of Parties in Rwanda leads the legal and the non-registered and historic parties of the Central African country of Rwanda.

The dominant party in the country, despite the formal introduction of a multi-party system with the constitutional referendum in 2003, the ruling party Rwanda Rwandan Patriotic Front.

Legally recognized parties

  • Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF ) (French: Front patriotique rwandais, English: Rwandan Patriotic Front, Rwandese Patriotic Front Patriotic Front of Rwanda or, abbreviated English: RPF or French FPR)

Resolved / banned parties

  • Mouvement national pour la républicain démocratie et le développement, is considered a pioneer of the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, was banned after the genocide.
  • Parmehutu, including MDR- Parmehutu ( Mouvement démocratique republicain Parmehutu ), existed from 1961 to 1973, both in Rwanda and in neighboring Burundi as the party of Hutu
  • Coalition pour la Défense de la République, became embroiled in the genocide of the Hutu party.

  • Union National Rwandaise, yet founded during the Belgian colonial period, reaching more than 16% of the vote in the first elections after independence.
