The Music and Theatre Academy of Lithuania ( Lithuanian: Lietuvos Muzikos ir teatro akademija, LMTA; Lat. Academia musicae et theatri Lithuaniae ) in Vilnius, Lithuania, State Academy of Music, the students of music, theater and multimedia art forms.

History

The composer Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in 1919, which was converted to the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. 1949, the Conservatory and the Conservatory Kaunas Vilnius were pooled for the Lithuanian State Conservatory. In 1992 it was renamed the State Conservatory in " Music Academy of Lithuania " ( Lietuvos Muzikos akademija, LMA ), 2004 received the institution its present name.

Current situation

In January 2005, the Music and Theatre Academy of Lithuania had 1,167 students who were taught by 274 people. Rector since 2005 Eduardas Gabnys, directing the Academy is located in a palace on Gediminas Avenue. In Vilnius there are three faculties, the Faculty of piano and musicology, the Faculty of instrumental and choral music, and the Faculty of Theatre and Film. A fourth Faculty in Kaunas, this double part, the bids of the two Vilnius musical faculties.

The Academy awards the following academic degrees: Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts of music, theater, multimedia arts, as well as a doctoral degree for graduates of musicology, popular musicology and theater theory and history. There is also a degree for a two-year postgraduate course for musicians, composers and directors.

The Academy strives to "develop international cooperation and integration in the European and global academic community to support the exchange of students and teachers, and to facilitate and ensure high quality standards in higher art education."

Students and professors occur at over 400 concerts a year. They participate in national and international orchestras, events, competitions and festivals. The Academy itself has sponsored, among others, the International Violin Competition Jascha Heifetz and an international competition for singers and accompanists. She is involved in the International Piano and Organ Competition Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. In addition, she organizes auditions for participation in the Youth Orchestra of the European Union, the International Choir and Orchestra Academy in Stuttgart and the International Holland Music Sessions and other preludes for scholarships.

International cooperation

The LMTA has 72 partner institutions across Europe through the Socrates program of bilateral agreements. In 2003 she set up a credit system, which is the European Credit Transfer System comparable.

In addition, the university has signed bilateral or multiterale agreement with the Belarusian State Academy of Music, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and its School of Slavonic traditional music, the Rimsky- Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg and the University of Kansas.
