The Vilnius Art Academy (Lit.: Vilniaus Dailes akademija ) based in Vilnius is the most important art school in Lithuania.

History

The Vilnius Art Academy, traces its foundation back to 1793 opened Faculty of Architecture of the University of Vilnius. Until 1832 departments were gradually built for the full range of visual arts: painting and drawing (1797 ), sculpture and art history (1803 ), engraving and graphics (1805 ).

1940, the Academy was spun off from the university. During the German occupation of Lithuania closed, it was reopened in 1944. The Vilnius Art Academy played and plays a significant role in the preservation of monuments in Lithuania.
