Litoral Department

Litoral in Bolivia is a name for the Chilean Región de Antofagasta. Bolivia had lost the area to the Salpeter 1879-1884. Nevertheless, it still raises claims to the territory and refers to it as his tenth department. Just domestically the demand for a is brought forth again and again "return to the sea ." Outwardly, this is symbolized by the tenth star in the national coat of arms and flag on the war at sea. Bolivia is also called a Marine his own, but as long as Bolivia is a landlocked country, runs only on Lake Titicaca and larger rivers.

Litoral also has its own coat of arms and a flag (horizontal, blue-red- yellow tricolor ).

On March 23, the day of the Sea ( Día del Mar) is annually celebrated in memory of the lost coast. He is accompanied by military parades, patriotic (some anti- Chilean ) demonstrations and events of all kinds. At the main square of San Francisco the city of La Paz also political rallies and funeral marches take place.
